Legislature Green Lights Affordable Housing Cooperative for Elizabeth Manor Property

The Ulster County Legislature threw its strong support behind the County Executive's plan to redevelop the Elizabeth Manor property as the County's first cooperative for affordable home ownership, voting 19 to 4 to authorize the transfer of this County-owned property to the Ulster County Housing Development Corporation. The proposed development will replace the former boarding house with a new 15-unit building designed to reflect the character of the surrounding neighborhood, with apartments available for affordable home ownership by families and seniors earning 60% of area median income. Like other County-supported housing projects, the building will be highly energy-efficient and all-electric, saving on utility bills while minimizing climate impact. Our project partner, Maeda Construction and team, expect the new building to be completed and apartments ready for sale in 2027.
