What route changes are being made?

    Additional changes include:

    • Improved Service between Kingston, New Paltz and Newburgh. Changes to the X Route and the College Loop (CL), connecting SUNY Ulster and SUNY New Paltz via Kingston, will now provide an additional 5 trips/day to Newburgh and an additional 6.5 trips/day between New Paltz and Kingston.

    • Shortened trip times between Ellenville and Kingston. The existing EU Route will be reconfigured and renamed as the E Route with two 8-hour shifts (E AM and E PM), eliminating the 10-hour U shift. CL will connect with the E Route, shortening trip times to Ellenville and improving access for rural riders.

    • Yellow Route (City of Kingston) and T Route Merger. These routes will combine to serve the Kingston Inn and City of Kingston. Service to Port Ewen will shift to the KPL Route, with convenient transfers available at Garraghan Drive and Development Court.

    • Fixed Schedule Route for New Paltz. Service in the New Paltz area will be provided by fixed service routes, specifically the KPL, UPL, and CL Routes. This will result in more accurate arrival and departure times while maintaining existing coverage. The NPL Route will be discontinued without any loss of service.

    • ADA Paratransit Expansion. UCAT will now operate up to 5 paratransit vehicles daily (up from 3), improving access and the ability to meet ride requests for riders with disabilities.

Why are these route changes being introduced now?

These other changes have been under consideration to address operational concerns and enhance service reliability. The transfer point relocation presented an opportunity to implement these other changes, which allow UCAT to better allocate resources (buses and drivers) to meet demand. Two additional drivers will be available to meet the growing demands of the paratransit riders, cover driver leave, reduces cancellations, and improve system reliability for all riders.

How will the route changes affect Port Ewen?

Data showed low ridership on the Yellow Route in Port Ewen, and service was reduced to 6 trips per day to better match ridership levels and allow for improved service where demand is greater. Port Ewen will continue to be served by the KPL, with regular service to Development Court and direct connection to Kingston Plaza. Service to the Birches at Esopus parking lot will be served by request, and nearby service on 9W and Dick Williams Lane (near Van Loans) will remain the same. There will also be additional support from UCAT’s weekly shopping bus and expanded paratransit service for disabled riders. For full route information visit Routes / Schedules / Maps – UCAT.

How will the route changes affect Ellenville?

The new outbound E Route makes scheduled stops at Tops, Healthy Way, Walmart, and more. Inbound, there are many stops along the route, but the Tops and Healthy Way stops are by request only. There will also be additional support from UCAT’s newly expanded paratransit service for disabled riders. For full route information visit Routes / Schedules / Maps – UCAT.

How do I request a stop at Tops and Healthy Way in Ellenville?

If already on the bus, just pull the cord to alert the driver that you want to make the stop. While getting off, you may request that the driver pick you up on their return route, or you may request a specific time you'd like to get picked up and the driver will contact dispatch to arrange your pickup, Otherwise, if you want pickup from one of these two locations, you must call dispatch an hour ahead of time at (845) 334-8458.

How will the route changes affect New Paltz?

The changes expand fixed route service to New Paltz. We are eliminating the NPL route because ridership was low. Instead, many additional buses will be going through New Paltz on a daily basis. There will also be additional support from UCAT’s newly expanded paratransit service for disabled riders. For full route information visit Routes / Schedules / Maps – UCAT.

Will bus trips be longer and have more transfers now?

The new route schedule is designed to reduce wait times for the majority of riders on the majority of routes.

Where can riders see maps of the new routes?

Updated maps and schedules are posted on the UCAT website: Routes / Schedules / Maps – UCAT and the August 2025 UCAT Schedule Update PDF.
